Brickit, an SMV Fund I & II portfolio company, has grown revenue and users 10x since we joined the company less than two years ago. The community has expanded in kind, beyond the initial grades K-8 group, now serving a growing constituency of teens and adult builders. To capture this expanding opportunity, Brickit's team is engaged in charting the Brickit journey through ML-driven personalization services. The goal is to expand engagement at the cadence that's right for each individual player, regardless of skill-level or age. This becomes a deep STEAM service, backed by an enthusiastic community, with UGC driving the action.
Beyond downloads from regular users, the main Brickit app was downloaded by educational organizations over 1 million times last year. Schools, however, cannot make in-app purchases and have special requirements regarding privacy and reduced social features. To meet this demand, the company launched a paid version of Brickit for Classes (website, app for iPad). The app includes the firm’s advanced brick scanner, hundreds of building ideas, and unique hands-on mini-games tailored for grades K-8. The service is available in five languages, including English and Spanish. The team is starting active outreach to educators to inform them about the new offering and invite enrollment.
